End Adult Advertisements during Family-Friendly Programs and YouTube Videos

As a parent, I often enjoy sitting down with my children to watch our favorite TV shows and YouTube videos together. However, the presence of adult-oriented advertisements during these sessions paints an awkward, inappropriate scenario that is simply unacceptable. We expect family-friendly timeslots and platforms to be safe zones for children, free from adult content. Yet, the current reality does not reflect this expectation.

Regrettably, children’s exposure to inappropriate content can have long-lasting effects. According to a 2017 study by Common Sense Media, 42% of children aged 8 and under have their own tablet devices, spending an average of 2 hours and 19 minutes per day watching screens (Rideout, 2017). This signifies the increasing role of media in our children’s lives. And with the uncontrolled airing of adult ads, we’re unintentionally exposing our kids to mature themes and visuals they aren't equipped to understand.

We respect the rights of advertisers to promote their products. However, a line must be drawn when these advertisements threaten the wellbeing and innocence of our children. Therefore, we call upon both broadcast channels and YouTube to implement stricter controls on the scheduling and placement of adult content advertisements.

This will ensure our children can enjoy their viewing experience without being inundated with age-inappropriate material.
