Good morning,

If you have raised the sewage overflow discharge at East Calder or across West Lothian recently or in the past, you may have received Scottish Water and SEPA's generic response below. Our concern is that largely untreated sewage is being discharged regularly into the River Almond and at times, sewage debris is released along with this. This will become worse if no action is taken in light of climate change and developments.

The overflow events leave our river banks full of toilet roll and other nasties, which is simply washed downstream to Cramond during high flows. This is totally unacceptable. This needs to be addressed at Parliamentary level so we would urge you to contact your local MSP and MP about this issue. Please take pictures if you see any and send them to Housing and Blue-Green Spaces - West Lothian and the River Almond Sewage Action Group.

As a minimum, West Lothian residents deserve to know when the River Almond is being polluted to avoid letting our dogs into the River and partaking in recreational water-based activities.
