Update 11/03/21 - Scottish Water and Veolia have admitted to the overflow from the settled storm storage tanks. This water receives basic screening and is then left in the storage tanks and discharged when the sewage works becomes overwhelmed. This happens more often than you would think.

The catchment area for the East Calder Sewage Works stretches from Longridge, to Kirknewton, to Deans, to Addiewell and includes the majority of the town of Livingston. This area can take hours to days to drain and recover to normal dry weather flows when there has been periods of heavy rain.

The public deserve a warning to avoid letting pets enter the river and for people partaking in water-based recreational activities during and following these discharges.
