Encourage the Leadership of Reform UK to Amplify Members' Voices
The Issue
As an avid political commentator and passionate supporter of Reform UK, I am becoming increasingly aggrieved by the direction the party appears to be taking. The very essence of Reform UK hinges on our collective voice and our shared aspiration for much-needed systematic change. However, the principles of democracy upon which we stand are being undermined by a fundamental issue - members of our party are feeling unheard.
Supporters of Reform UK, like us, are the backbone of the party. While the leadership possesses the authority, it is important for them to recognize that the power and direction should originate from its members. We, the pillars of the party, have to face an unpleasant reality: our voices are not being heard, not being valued as they should be. This lack of democratic dialogue within the party is concerning and risks reducing Reform UK to a replica of the very systems we aim to transform, whether it be the Tories, Labour, or the Liberal Democrats.
In context, the Hansard Society’s 2019 Audit of Political Engagement revealed that 72% of British public felt that the system of governing needed 'quite a lot' or 'a great deal' of improvement. It was also found that 47% felt they had no influence at all over national decision-making processes (Hansard Society, 2019). We must not emulate this failure within our party. We must commit to reform, true to our name, not only in the country but within us, within our processes, within our leadership.
Our concerted appeal to the leadership of Reform UK is simple: listen to the voices that make up this party. Engage us in key decisions and actions. Be different from the parties we aim to surpass. Ensure that Reform UK stands for democracy, for change, and for the voice of every single one of its members. Give members an actual voice in regard to policy, and a place for decisions to be discussed.
Add your voice to this critical call. Sign the petition and propel the Reform UK leadership to prioritize and amplify the voices of its members.
