Encourage the Cubs Organization to Preserve Green Spaces and Foster a Cleaner Neighborhood

The Issue

Our love for the Cubs and Wrigleyville is profound and enduring. However, the Cubs Organization's recent activities have been disheartening. As residents, the game day traffic, the trash in our yards, or the vomit on our sidewalks is something we have accepted as the worthwhile cost of living by such a hallowed place. However, the lack of consideration the Cubs Organization sometimes shows neighboring residents makes us question the sense of community so celebrated in our neighborhood. Moreover, the dearth of green spaces has been a long-standing issue.

We have relatively fewer parks and green spaces in our neighborhood, as there are few places not already paved for Cubs parking. One place that had remained untouched was an open green space along the curb on Grace Avenue. Now, that precious space is being fenced off specifically so the neighborhood can no longer use it, all in order to protect the grass surrounding their enormous private parking lot. In a neighborhood starved of nature, where neighbors already live their lives at the cadence of the Cubs schedule and spend weekends picking up trash from their yards after every game, this action not only feels cold but shows an indifference to the well-being of the community.

We don't want to live in an outdoor mall -- we want to live in a neighborhood. Instead of commercializing, paving, or fencing off even more of the neighborhood - it would be nice if the Cubs Organization/Ricketts family showed more care and consideration for the working class residents living around the seat of their wealth.

We urge the Cubs Organization to consider their responsibility as a significant entity in our neighborhood. Keeping Wrigleyville clean, beautiful, and accessible is not only the duty of its residents but the major organizations that operate within it as well. Please, help preserve access to the green space along Grace Avenue, make better plans for post-game cleanups, and be the neighbor we need. Sign this petition to ensure our voices reach the Cubs Organization.
