Encourage local tech companies to boost semiconductor manufacturing

The Issue

The global semiconductor shortage has impacted every aspect of modern life, from personal devices like smartphones and laptops to critical sectors such as automotive and healthcare technologies. Due to the limited production capacity of existing semiconductor manufacturing companies, the demand far exceeds the supply, resulting in delays, increased prices, and stunted innovation across multiple industries.

In 2021, a severely constrained supply chain showed that 75% of global semiconductor manufacturing capacity was concentrated in East Asia. This over-reliance on production from overseas not only affects the economic and technological advancements but also highlights the vulnerability of global supply chains to disruptions ranging from natural disasters to geopolitical tensions.

Increasing the number and capacity of semiconductor manufacturing companies domestically would help bridge the gap between demand and supply. In addition to alleviating shortages, this initiative would anchor technological advancements directly within the local economy, foster job creation, and stimulate competitiveness in the tech market.

To achieve this, we call on the federal government to incentivize the establishment and expansion of semiconductor and tech manufacturing firms within our borders. This can be facilitated through tax incentives, grants for research and development, and easing regulatory hurdles to make the environment more conducive for new and existing players.

Sign this petition to urge policymakers to prioritize and support the growth of domestic semiconductor manufacturing to ensure a resilient and self-sufficient tech industry that can keep pace with global demand. This step is crucial not only for short-term relief but for securing a stronghold in the future tech landscape. Your support can help drive significant change for a more stable, innovative, and prosperous future. Sign this petition now!
