The Issue

My child, a devoted student at Liberty High School in Brentwood, is one of the many passionate young athletes who graduate from our local club lacrosse program when they turn 15. After this age, they find themselves devoid of any opportunity to play the sport they love and have diligently trained for at the high school level. This petition aims to change that reality.

Lacrosse is more than just a game; it is a path towards personal growth, camaraderie, and discipline. But the Liberty Union High School district has yet to recognize boys and girls’ lacrosse as a CIF sanctioned sport. This limits our children's opportunities to experience these benefits and continue their athletic growth.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing high school sports in the United States. In the past decade, participation has increased by 27.8% for boys and 26.4% for girls (NFHS, 2019).

Recognizing lacrosse as a CIF sport would not only benefit the students but also enhance the diversity of athletic offerings of our school district, meeting the needs of a larger number of students who don’t fit into the traditional sports mold.

We ask Liberty Union High School District to step up and expand its athletic domain by acknowledging lacrosse as a CIF sport. This will provide students in the district an opportunity to participate in demanding, highly engaging, and team-building sports, beyond the traditional athletic programs.

We urge you to lend your support to our cause. Many young athletes in our community are looking at us to stand up for them. Let us ensure that their passion for lacrosse is nurtured and rewarded at the highest level. Please sign this petition to bring lacrosse to Liberty Union High School District.
