I want to take a moment to make something very clear:

This petition is not about disrupting local government.
It’s about encouraging our city leaders to take a responsible, thoughtful approach to a decision that will affect Lawrenceville for generations.

I truly believe that some of the things our mayor and city council have done recently are positive steps forward. But I also believe it’s shortsighted to assume the old high school site is the only option for our much-needed new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

Yes, the old high school property is an eyesore. Yes, it needs to be torn down for public safety.
But that doesn’t automatically mean it’s the right place for a multi-million-dollar piece of critical infrastructure.

Doing what’s easy isn’t the same as doing what’s right.

We didn’t elect our city leaders to take the convenient path—we elected them to lead with vision, responsibility, and long-term thinking.

All I’m asking is that the council formally explore alternate sites—like the open farmland northwest of the city near the river—before committing to the high school location. That’s called due diligence. That’s responsible governance.

And if, after all the research and professional evaluation, the old high school site truly is the best option? Then we move forward—knowing we’ve done it the right way.

That’s not unreasonable. That’s just good leadership.
