Encourage Governor Gavin Newsom to Revitalize the Hollywood Film Industry in California

The Issue

*NOW WITH THE FIRES THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR THE INDUSTRY TO RETURN TO LOS ANGELES. OUR LEADERS NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
As a dedicated member of California's illustrious film industry, I have watched with an increasing sense of despair as production companies opt to take their projects to other states, Europe or Canada, leaving our local workforce and businesses struggling. It isn’t just about making films. It's about our livelihoods, our families, and the heritage of Hollywood.

Once the thriving heartland of global cinema, California is now feeling the strain of an industry that has been forced to look elsewhere. For many of us, this isn't just about out of state filming schedules — we are in danger of going into serious debt simply to survive. Jobs are harder to come by, and the impact on our local economy stretches far beyond the boundaries of Hollywood — affecting local businesses, restaurants, dry cleaners, tailors, daycare workers and everyday lives.

While I am just one voice, I know I speak for countless others when I call upon Governor Gavin Newsom to take decisive action. To sweeten the deal for production companies, we need fair and competitive incentives that will encourage them to return to Hollywood. In 2015, a 2.5 billion dollar spike was noted in the economy when film credits were increased from 100 million to 330 million dollars. An indication, that strategic investments work (Source: Variety, 2016).

Let's stand together and urge our Governor to bring Hollywood back home. To safeguard not only the jobs and businesses in our city but also to preserve our state's cultural heritage, where motion picture began. The time for action is now. Sign this petition to voice your support.
