Encourage Cobar Shire Council to Open a Dedicated Dog Park

SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM ⬇️
Since the recent upgrade of the Ward Oval, our harmonious community has found itself divided. Dog lovers vs. sports enthusiasts. A peaceful township pulled into two factions – all over something as simple as letting our dogs play freely.
The upgrade of Ward Oval was undoubtedly necessary and appreciated by everyone. Still, it has left many of us, and our beloved pets, without a safe, designated area where dogs can be allowed off-leash. There have been several occasions where we have been accosted by others, often of the older generation, scolding us for allowing our dogs to roam freely, insisting it's a 'kids ONLY sporting oval'.
We understand their concerns, we truly do. Not all dog owners are responsible, and it can be disheartening to see the remnants of a dog's play on the field where our children sport. But many of us are conscientious, and it feels unfair to the responsible dog owners to be denied the simple pleasure of seeing their pets frolic and play.
In Australia, 69% of people own animals with 48% of households owning a dog. They’ve been found to significantly contribute to the emotional and psychological wellbeing of their owners (RSPCA, 2020 Report). Everyone benefits when dogs have a designated place to frolic freely and safely. This is particularly important for anyone with a puppy still being trained and are looking for a secure area to burn off energy.
Cobar may only have a population of just under 5000 people, however, other small towns are able to accommodate to dog parks, such as; Junee (population approx. 6,500), West Wyalong (population approx. 2,600), Yanco (population approx. under 1000), Narrandera (population approx. 5,600), Hay (population approx. 2,800). *Figures from 2021 census*
So, we make this plea to let us have a dog park. It's not merely a whim, it's essential for maintaining the harmony in our community and catering to the wellbeing of our four-legged friends and their owners.
Sign this petition to show your support for a dedicated dog park in Cobar. Let's reunite our community, two and four-legged members alike.
!!! UPDATE !!!
Apparently the discussion of a dog park is already underway at council, but it depends on government funding and grants. I’m now hoping that with the help and momentum of this petition, I can write a letter in support of this proposal.
