Enact Smarter Traffic Systems and Laws in Airdrie, AB

The Issue

As a resident of Airdrie, AB, my daily commute repeatedly exposes me to the harsh realities of unoptimized traffic light systems and distracted pedestrians that result in unnecessary traffic and wastage of time. It is deeply personal to me. I, like many others, see the deficit in efficiency in our current traffic regulation system. This petition calls for a twofold reform in our transportation laws.

Firstly, this initiative demands a law dictating that pedestrians and drivers must proceed through intersections only when the signal permits them. A critical study published in the Journal of Safety Research claims that pedestrian errors contribute to 72% of road collisions at signaled intersections (Source: Journal of Safety Research, 2019).

Secondly, we ask for the replacement of our current traffic light system with an Intelligent AI system. The advantages of smart traffic lights are manifold. Not only would they reduce congestion, but they also have potential environmental impacts. Studies from the National Institute for Traffic and Transport Policy Research estimate that smart traffic light systems can reduce idle time by up to 20%, thus leading to lower vehicle emissions (Source: National Institute for Traffic and Transport Policy Research).

Through these changes, we envision a safer, smarter, and more efficient road system in Airdrie, AB. United in this shared vision, we call upon local governments and transportation authorities to recognize the urgency of our plea. Your signature can help bring about this necessary change.

Help us advocate for efficient traffic systems and unnecessary traffic blocks by signing this petition.

Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Sincerely, George Saleh
