Julie Bass of Oak Park, Michigan -- a mother of 6, law-abiding citizen, and gardener -- was facing 93 days in jail after being charged with a misdemeanor.
Her crime? Planting a vegetable garden in the front yard.
This woman was charged with a misdemeanor and possible 93 days in jail away from her six children for growing a garden to feed her family in her front yard! This is our freedoms taken from us on the most important level. We should all be given the freedom to grow our own food on our own property rented or owned. We should all be able to feed ourselves as we see fit. This is an incredible waste of government resources in a recession and a horrible injustice done to a mother and an American citizen. This woman and all United States of America citizens deserve the liberty of feeding themselves however their means, their beliefs, and their lifestyle permits. Make it unjust to criminalize growing your own food wherever you plant it on land you pay for; rent or own!
The town has dropped its charges against Julie Bass, who faced a possible jail sentence for planting a vegetable garden in her front yard. This doesn't mean everyone is free to grow their own food. Let's make it legal for everyone to feed themselves!
Stop criminalizing U.S. Citizens for growing their own food!
