To the Members of the United States Congress, the FCC, and the Executive Branch, We, the citizens of the United States, are calling for immediate and decisive legislative action to enact a nationwide ban on TikTok. While originally marketed as a harmless platform for creative expression, TikTok has transformed into an unmanageable public safety threat and a severe risk to our national security.

Across the country, our local communities and police forces are dealing with the dangerous real-world fallout of TikTok's algorithms. The platform routinely facilitates viral "challenges" and sudden mass gatherings, such as the destructive "teen takeovers" that recently overwhelmed local law enforcement and left multiple people injured in cities like Raleigh, North Carolina. 8,000 teens took over the streets. Yes, that number is EIGHT THOUSAND, let that sink in. These dangerous, social media-fueled flash mobs put immense strain on our police departments, cause extensive damage to small businesses, and place thousands of minors in direct harm's way.

Beyond localized public safety crises, the app poses a massive risk to national security. TikTok’s foreign ownership structure leaves the personal data of millions of American citizens vulnerable to exploitation, surveillance, and algorithmic manipulation. Despite repeated warnings from intelligence officials, cybersecurity experts, and federal lawmakers, the platform remains a powerful tool for spreading misinformation and destabilizing local communities.

Our current laws are not enough to protect American families from the algorithmic dangers and real-world violence coordinated on this platform. We must prioritize national security, public safety, and the well-being of our youth over a corporate social media app.

Pass a Comprehensive Nationwide Ban: Enact federal legislation that fully prohibits TikTok from operating or being distributed within the United States.

Hold Tech Platforms Accountable: Strengthen federal oversight on social media algorithms that actively promote or coordinate dangerous, illegal public gatherings and viral threats.
Protect American Data: Enforce stricter data privacy laws to prevent foreign adversaries from harvesting the personal and behavioral data of American citizens.

The safety of our communities, the security of our nation, and the future of our youth must come first. We urge our lawmakers to act swiftly and decisively to ban TikTok in the United States.
