Enable Public Bow Hunting Access in Needleseye Park
Enable Public Bow Hunting Access in Needleseye Park
The Issue
As local residents of Oak Hill, WV, we have seen our precious state and federal lands being increasingly allocated to outdoor activities for visitors, while our rights to enjoy these lands in the ways we cherish are being overlooked. Our community, which faithfully pays its taxes to maintain these spaces, is being denied the traditional and safe practice of bow hunting, a form of outdoor recreation that, unlike rafting or hiking, doesn't owe its existence to man, but to nature itself.
Needleseye Park is state-owned property, created for the enjoyment and recreation of its citizens. Bow hunting, despite misconceptions, poses no risks to houses or individuals, and it has been part of our community's recreational culture for generations. In fact, bow hunting accidents are incredibly rare. According to the National Safety Council, you are far more likely to be injured playing volleyball than in a bow hunting accident, with a mere 1 in 2,000 chance of being injured while hunting with bows and arrows.
We believe in the importance of all forms of outdoor recreation, but it's crucial we don't lose sight of our own history and traditions in the face of an influx of out-of-state interests. We are, after all, the people who live here and fund these outdoor spaces with our taxes. Needleseye Park, and places like it, should reflect the diverse recreational preferences of those who live here, including our right to bow hunt.
By signing this petition, you'll be joining us in requesting the authorities to allow public bow hunting access in Needleseye Park. Your support is essential in maintaining the diversity of recreational activities in our state and protecting our traditional practices. Please sign the petition to keep bow hunting alive in our community.
