The Issue

Art is not just an after-school activity for my children; it is their lifeline, the very avenue through which they connect and communicate. As a family, we are relatively new to the area and being introverts, my children find solace and socialization in expressing themselves through art. Holding the art club during super study would allow them to continue this invaluable journey of expression.

The potential loss of the art club due to administrative reasons sends chills down my spine. For my children, and many others who may not have found their voice yet, this decision could mute their creativity and self-expression.

Art education plays a pivotal role in child development, particularly among teenagers. The National Endowment for the Arts reports that teenagers who participate in the arts tend to do better academically and socially. They show stronger tendencies towards volunteering and school involvement and are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement (NEA 2012).

Therefore, I implore the school board and school administration to permit the high school art teacher to hold the art club during super study during the 2025-2026 school year. By doing so, you will not only be allowing an art program to thrive, but aiding the development of our young people in their most formative years.

It's a call to support our future – by letting our children paint it themselves. Please sign this petition if you share our belief in art's powerful impact on youth development.
