Enable Gmail and Google Alias Creation

The Issue

I really like how Microsoft allows users to create multiple email aliases and easily switch their primary email address whenever needed. With Microsoft accounts, all it takes is adding a new email alias and selecting it as the primary address. If desired, you can even remove the old one. It is a smooth, user-friendly process that respects personal choice and evolving digital needs.

Unfortunately, Google does not offer the same flexibility. Gmail users are stuck with their original email address, even if it no longer serves them. Whether someone created their Gmail account years ago with a typo, an outdated username, or simply wants a more professional or personal identity, they are often left without an easy solution.

This lack of flexibility becomes a long-term burden. Many people eventually feel dissatisfied with the email tied to their Google Account, but they are forced to either abandon years of usage or manage multiple disconnected accounts. In contrast, Microsoft’s system offers a practical, seamless way to evolve with users’ changing lives, careers, or identities.

The digital world is constantly changing, and people’s needs change with it. A person might change their name, shift professional directions, or rebrand themselves. Others might want to move on from an old or immature email handle, or recover from a simple mistake made during account creation. These are all normal parts of digital life, and Google should recognize and support them.

By allowing users to create email aliases and change their primary Gmail address, just like Microsoft does, Google would show that it values both convenience and user autonomy. This feature would improve usability, strengthen identity management, and even support better security practices by helping users keep their contact information up to date.

Millions of people use Google services for everything from business to education to personal communication. Giving them more control over something as fundamental as their email identity would be a meaningful improvement that aligns with modern digital expectations.

Please sign this petition to encourage Google to adopt a more flexible, user-centered approach to email management. Let us ask Google to make it possible for users to create email aliases, change their primary Gmail address, and enjoy the same digital freedom that Microsoft users already have.
