Empower the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to Fund Coral Nurseries

Empower the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to Fund Coral Nurseries
The issue
The Great Barrier Reef, an icon of Australia, is home to numerous species of global significance. However, because of the rapidly changing climate and industrial action, this precious ecosystem is rapidly deteriorating. Coral nurseries, which help sustain the Reef, are underfunded due to a lack of appropriate power and resources allocated to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. This vital issue affects not just Australia's heritage, but the entire world's biodiversity.
According to a 2012 study by the Australian Institute of Marine Science, the Great Barrier Reef has lost more than half of its coral cover since 1985, which has grave implications not only for the ecosystem, but also for the millions dependent on the Reef for their livelihood (Source: Australian Institute of Marine Science).
We urge the Australian Government to give the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority the power to fund coral nurseries. Doing so will provide a sustainable solution to help both preserve and enhance the recovery and resilience of this iconic World heritage site. Join us in advocating for the future of our Great Barrier Reef and ultimately our planet. Sign the petition now.
