Emotional Support Dog Taken Following a Breakup

Emotional Support Dog Taken Following a Breakup
The Issue
In the aftermath of a relationship breakdown, my ex-partner took my dog Billy, the light of my life. This was four months ago, I have been ghosted since.
This incredible Chihuahua plays a significant role in my mental wellbeing as he was primarily adopted to assist me in managing my grief and trauma following a devastating bereavement and to help cope with subsequent mental health struggles.
It has been four months and I have not had any sight or sound of the pet I consider my child and only dependent.
Statistics show that pets, particularly dogs, play a crucial role in managing mental health issues. A survey by the Human Animal Bond Research Institute found that 74% of pet owners reported mental health improvements from pet ownership. We are not just dealing with property here, we are dealing with a life that holds emotional significance and therapeutic value.
In refusing to allow me access to Billy my ex-partner continues to contribute to my mental health difficulties. I am after joint custody not sole, I would never to him what he has done to me.
I just want to hold and play with my dog again and be reminded of the joy that comes with meeting his needs. I am struggling to cope without Billy Boy.
I urge you to support this petition. It is more than just a plea for me; it's a call to recognize that pets can hold substantial emotional significance, and in disputes, their role should not be reduced to simply 'property'. Your signature can raise awareness of the importance of emotional support animals in mental health and prevent future cases like mine. Please, sign the petition and help return my family member to me.
