No al cierre del Instituto de Historia de la Medicina y de la Ciencia López Piñero
El problema
El presidente del CSIC, unilateralmente y sin previo aviso, ha decidido anular el convenio entre el CSIC y la Universitat de València, que supondría en definitiva el cierre del Instituto de Historia de la Medicina y de la Ciencia López Piñero (CSIC - Universitat de València). En el escrito del Presidente del CSIC al Rector de la Universitat de València se alega que "el Instituto ha sufrido una considerable disminución de su actividad y producción científicas como consecuencia de la significativa merma de personal que presta servicio en su seno". Sin embargo, en la evaluación de cumplimiento de objetivos de investigación correspondiente al año 2013 realizada por el propio CSIC, se ha alcanzado el 100%. En contra de la decisión tomada por el CSIC, además, cabe señalar las diferentes actividades que con éxito organiza de manera regular el Instituto, desde congresos, seminarios, mesas redondas, ciclos de conferencias y exposiciones, hasta la organización del Máster y el Doctorado interuniversitario de Historia de la Ciencia y Comunicación Científica junto con la Universidad Miguel Hernández y la Universidad de Alicante.

The president of the Spanish National Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), unilaterally and with no previous warning, has decided to break the agreement existing between this institution and the University of Valencia, which would mean the closing of the Institute for the History of Science and Medicine López Piñero in Valencia (Spain) on 15 December 2014. In a letter to the rector of the University of Valencia, the President of the CSIC says that "the Institute has suffered a considerable reduction of its activity and scientific production as a consequence of the significant loss of personnel working in it". However, the evaluation of the research objectives and accomplishments in 2013 –made by the CSIC itself– reached 100%. The Institute also organizes, on regular basis, conferences, seminars, round tables, academic lectures, and exhibitions. Furthermore, next September the Institute will begin a new inter-university MA in History of Science and Scientific Communication, together with the University Miguel Hernández and the University of Alicante.
For all these reasons, we reject the decision made and we hope that it will be reconsidered. We would also like to express our solidarity and support to the continuity of the Institute for the History of Science and Medicine López Piñero.
