Petition updateEmergency: Save Our Peninsula’s Wildlife Before It’s Too LateHere's your chance to speak up for wildlife and native vegetation/habitat

Our community now has an important opportunity to speak up for the protection of native vegetation, wildlife habitat and mature trees across the Mornington Peninsula.

Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Draft Tree Management Policy and Draft Budget 2026/27 are currently open for community feedback — and this is the time for residents to make their voices heard.

The Shire’s own documents speak about:

• protecting biodiversity

• increasing tree canopy

• protecting wildlife habitat

• climate resilience

• transparent and community-centred decision making

Yet many residents continue to witness excessive pruning, vegetation clearing, habitat loss and damage to mature trees throughout the Peninsula.

If you care about:

🌿 native vegetation

🦉 wildlife habitat

🌳 mature trees

🐾 biodiversity corridors

🌏 climate resilience

💚 protecting the character of the Peninsula

please take a few minutes to complete the survey or make a formal submission.

The consultation closes on 3 June 2026.

Councillor Max Patton is also holding a community workshop/information session regarding the draft Tree Management Policy and community feedback.

Community consultation period:

📅 22 April – 3 June 2026

Recent community sessions have included:

• Mornington Main Street Market – 29 April

• Yawa Aquatic Centre Rosebud – 13 May

• Mount Eliza Market – 26 May  (Mornington Peninsula Shire)

This petition began because many people across the Peninsula felt deeply concerned about the loss and treatment of roadside vegetation and habitat.

Community voices matter — but only if we participate.

Please share widely with anyone who cares about the future of our trees, wildlife and natural environment.
