I have recently:
• Made a formal submission to Mornington Peninsula Shire Council
• Contacted councillors directly
• Lodged objections to planning applications where vegetation and habitat are at risk
• Reached out to candidates in the upcoming by-election
Because what we are seeing across the Peninsula is not isolated.
It is incremental.
Tree by tree.
Block by block.
Street by street.
Particularly in areas like Tootgarook, where this change is happening rapidly and often goes unnoticed until it is too late.
We only have around 2,600 homes here.
But close to 1,000 properties have sold in the past decade.
And what happens almost every time?
Old homes are demolished.
Blocks are cleared.
Mature Moonah, Tea tree and eucalyptus trees are removed.
Habitat gone - overnight.
This is not just happening here.
If you are seeing similar clearing, loss of trees, or habitat decline in your own area, please consider taking action:
• Make a submission to your local council
• Object to planning applications where appropriate
• Contact your local representatives
• Speak up about what is happening in your community
And please report the destruction of street trees by council contractors. These cowboys from Ventia are out on our roads every single day - they are not 'pruning', as we are told - they are randomly removing healthy trees and shrubs, and vandalising others with their savage chainsawing.
These actions matter - especially when they are repeated across communities.
This petition will remain active as we continue to push for stronger protection of native vegetation, street trees, and wildlife habitat.
Please continue to sign and share.
We cannot protect what’s left if we stay silent.
