Thank you again to everyone who has supported this petition — we are now over 750 signatures, and your voices truly matter.

At the 20 May council meeting, the petition was officially acknowledged and recorded in the minutes yet nothing has changed, so I submitted two questions to Council at their recent  6 June meeting. Only one received a vague response — and none of my concerns about wildlife or the Wildlife Protection Act 1975 were even mentioned.

Council claims that tree clearing is carried out under the Road Management Act 2004 and that Australian Standard 4373 (pruning of amenity trees) is being followed “wherever possible.” They added that more branches are removed to “promote long-term tree health and faster recovery.”

But how can this be true when in many circumstances there is no foliage left for photosynthesis — the very thing trees need to survive? Someone needs to do a biology refresher!

I’ve witnessed native tea trees dying after this so-called “pruning.” I’ve seen the aftermath with my own eyes — and I seriously question whether an arborist has truly inspected every one of these destructive works, as stated by the C.E.O.

And still, no mention of wildlife. No acknowledgment of those relying on this habitat. No answer to my question about whether contractors are being paid by the cubic metre — an incentive that could be driving this over-removal.

This is more than “amenity pruning” and I will continue to push for answers — and for accountability.

Meanwhile I have been contacted by a representative from MP Sam Groth’s team to say he had forwarded my email and petition on to the Environmental Minister.

Please keep sharing the petition
