Petition updateEmergency: Save Our Peninsula’s Wildlife Before It’s Too LateWildlife Ignored Again: Contractors Clear Habitat Without Spotters

Today I formally reported the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to the Conservation Regulator for breaching their obligations under the Wildlife Act 1975.

Contractors were again observed clearing dense coastal vegetation — this time along Truemans Road for a planned roundabout — with no wildlife spotter present. These areas are vital Moonah and Tea Tree habitat and are home to countless birds, ringtail possums, insects, and reptiles.

The Council has had ample time to plan this infrastructure work with proper ecological assessments and protections. Yet again, they’ve failed.

When questioned, contractors laughed off the concern, showing a disturbing disregard for their legal and ethical responsibilities.

This is exactly the type of negligent and destructive activity our petition stands against — habitat loss disguised as progress, and wildlife protections ignored in the process.

Please continue to share the petition and remind your networks that this fight is far from over.
