Title: Demand Immediate Medical Release for Wrongfully Convicted Lupus Patient Shanterrica Johnson

Target: Governor Greg Abbott, Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, U.S. Department of Justice

Shanterrica Johnson is a 25-year-old woman who was a full-time college student and a therapist for autistic children. Today, she is dying in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ #02606893) due to a wrongful conviction and severe, premeditated medical neglect.

Shanterrica suffers from active, uncontrolled Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), imminent renal failure, and documented pre-existing cardiac conditions including fluid around her heart and a leaky valve. Despite her life-threatening condition, TDCJ and UTMB medical staff have subjected her to horrific abuse — forcing her onto a multi-day chain bus transport at 2:00 AM during an active lupus flare, withholding her critical immunosuppressant medication because she is too weak to stand in a pill line, denying her shower access for days at a time while she suffers from open, raw skin lesions, and refusing to provide specialist nephrologist and cardiologist care.

Worse, after a federal civil rights lawsuit (Case No. 1:26-cv-01714) and a state habeas corpus petition were filed exposing her void conviction, a TDCJ warden directly threatened her life, stating: "If you sue me... and you end up dying, I'm getting sued and then y'all get some money... but you don't get a new life. You're dead."

Shortly after, TDCJ altered her criminal charge on their public website to cover up the defective indictment.
An Emergency Medical Reprieve has been filed. We demand that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles and Governor Greg Abbott grant this reprieve immediately before Shanterrica dies in custody. We also demand a federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into the medical retaliation and record tampering at TDCJ.
