Julian Assange has been imprisoned for 1898 days

Dear Supporters,

Julian’s defense has always relied on the generosity of the general public. Unlike the US government which has unlimited resources to pursue its cruel persecution, we solely depend on you, the public, to campaign for his freedom. Every contribution made to the Free Assange campaign supports our efforts to free Julian and allow him to be reunited with Stella and their two young children. Please consider donating at this crucial time towards Julian’s campaign here: https://freeassange.org/donate/

We are rapidly approach Julian's hearing on 9-10 July - and on these days we are calling for as many people as possible to gather outside the Royal Courts of Justice from 8.30am. The Free Assange team will be there alongside notable speakers on the stage outside. For those unable to attend on the day please stay tuned to our Social Media channels for up-to-date coverage and reaction.

With less than three weeks before the first day of the hearing it is once again time to mobilize to loudly call for this unjust persecution to end.

Justices Jeremy Johnson and Victoria Sharp have been named as judges for the two day appeal which will allow Julian to put his case before the court amid intensifying calls for his release. Continuing and increasing public pressure is vital at this time in order to ramp up pressure against this ongoing injustice.

Last week Stella attended both the Bitcoin Prague and Wired Next Festival in Italy. In Milan she told the audience that she hoped Julian would be released and that the legal precedent Julian's prosecution sets is a danger to all journalists. The only good outcome for journalism itself was for President Biden to drop the case, the attendees heard. Describing Julian's persecution as "the most dangerous attack on journalism globally", Stella told the audience his prosecution criminalizes the simple activity of collecting and publishing information. Julian has remained in HMP Belmarsh for over five years with failing health, while he has not been convicted of any crime and is not serving any sentence. Stella spoke of the huge support Julian has received from around the world as we head towards July's court hearing. On the third of July Julian will spend his 53rd birthday incarcerated and isolated in HMP Belmarsh. Detained for more than 13 years we must resolve to make this the last birthday Julian will spend without his freedom. Coming less than a week before the court hearing and in the midst of a UK General Election this day may be overshadowed by other events yet it is still another opportunity to call attention to Julian's ongoing suffering and isolation from his family.

The International Federation of Journalists has long campaigned for Julian's freedom and this week their President Dominique Pradalié and members showed solidarity visiting outside HMP Belmarsh where Julian is held and calling unequivocally for his release. The IFJ, which represents more than 600,000 journalists worldwide, has previously denounced the proceedings against Julian as a "threat to all journalists" and urged their members to rally against this dangerous prosecution. Journalists unions in the UK, Australia and around the world have likewise denounced the attempt to prosecute Julian alongside media, human rights and civil society groups in every corner of the globe.

The following day at a reception in the British Parliament Pradalié emphasized the importance of protecting journalists and used the opportunity once again to call for Julian’s freedom.

With the UK General Election on July 4th and elections in France now also announced - it is more important than ever to make representations to your local candidates and representatives. Wherever you are, public pressure in the form of letters and telephone calls to publicly elected officials, and those wishing to become elected, are always a helpful way to contribute concretely to Julian's defense. Please also consider donating to the campaign, you can find the link at the bottom.

The tide has turned and with increased pressure we can stop this cruel prosecution from continuing - Make your voice heard! - Gather from 08:30am on the 9th and 10th July outside the Royal Courts of Justice and shout loudly "Free Julian Assange"
