Eliminate time changes in the United States, and modernize our time zones for all time!
The Issue
Twice a year, millions of Americans find themselves dreading the inevitable clock adjustments—springing forward and falling back. What might seem like a minor adjustment inflicts billions of dollars of damage on our economy every year. Productivity takes a hit as businesses grapple with the reduced efficiency that results from disrupted sleep cycles and confused body clocks. Beyond the dollars and cents are the more insidious health impacts: studies have shown that changing the time twice a year affects our sleep, exacerbates medical conditions, and increases incidents of heart attacks and strokes following each change of our clocks (reference: American Journal of Cardiology, 2013).
Our current practice of changing time is based on antiquated beliefs, lingering from a time when energy conservation was thought to justify such shifts. However, research from the U.S. Department of Energy suggests that energy savings are minimal at best.
The Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 (Senate Bill 29), introduced by Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), seeks to install Daylight Saving Time (DST) throughout the US; however, by imposing DST on top of our outdated time zone maps (who really thinks that Indianapolis and Boston should be in the same time zone, anyway??) creates new issues, such as extremely late winter sunrises (after 9am) in Michigan and Indiana. Here's the current map:

My solution? Implement Daylight Saving Time throughout the lower 48 states, but shift our time zone boundaries to the east (aligning with state boundaries as much as possible)

This will address the concerns of those (including Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR)) who recognize that extremely late sunrises are detrimental to public health as well, and ensure that our country has common-sense time zones (with boundaries that don't zig-zag across the map!) that will usher in a new era of efficiency and health for all Americans.
By signing this petition, you support a practical and necessary change that will safeguard the health and well-being of our citizens and bolster our economy. Let us urge our policymakers to reevaluate and overhaul this outdated system for the needs of today and tomorrow. Please join this call to action and sign the petition to end twice-yearly clock changes in the United States.
