Eliminate the Two-Child Cap on Welfare Benefits

The Issue

I share this issue from a deeply personal perspective. As a parent of six children, I am unfairly impacted by the regulation that provides benefit payments only for the first two children in a household. Sadly, the policy does not consider that every child, irrespective of their birth order, has needs that must be met. The two-child cap on welfare benefits fails to provide the necessary support for families like mine, creating a distressing financial hardship that impacts the wellbeing of our children.

Moreover, it’s perplexing and appears unjust to witness different standards being applied to other groups. One such illustration is asylum seekers who receive a set amount per week for every individual in their household without such restrictions.

According to a report by Child Poverty Action Group, this two-child limit policy affects 1.3 million families and 3 million children in the UK (source: Child Poverty Action Group). This clearly indicates how widespread our plight is. We are not isolated cases, but part of a large group of families whose children are being penalized just due to their birth order.

It's thus imperative to reconsider the two-child cap policy. We ask that it be abolished, ensuring each child within a family is considered individually, allowing families to receive the necessary benefits all children rightfully deserve. Please sign this petition and stand with us in our fight for a fair and equal benefits system.
