Eliminate the 'Divorced' Designation from All Forms and Questionnaires
The Issue
Over two decades ago, my marriage ended. However people in my position still have to use the 'divorced' designation on various forms and questionnaires, a label that does not truly reflect my identity today. By my life's current standing, I am single, independent, yet this outdated and redundant classification forces me, and many others, to perpetually associate ourselves with a past life phase, often irrelevant to our current one. We are asking for a step towards respecting personal histories and identities by removing the 'divorced' designation from all questionnaires and forms. This petition is more than a plea—it's a call for transformation in the way identity is perceived and labeled. Statistics indicate nearly 50% of all marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. It's time to stop defining people by their past marital statuses. We are calling upon legislators and policy-makers who design these forms to give people the option to identify as single without the need for additional tags like single/divorced or other labels. We demand the recognition and respect we deserve. It is about time our society acknowledges us for who we are today, not for our past. Sign this petition today to join the call for change.
