Eliminate Responsive Advisory Meetings (RAM) in Illinois Schools

The Issue

Born out of personal experience and shared testimonies from my fellow comrades from first to 8th grade, it has become clear that we are suffering negative impacts from participation in RAM - Responsive Advisory Meetings. Students across Illinois, ourselves included, are facing mental exhaustion due to this practice, claiming to lose brain cells by the minute.

Ironically, these meetings are meant to enhance learning environments by promoting social-emotional learning and fostering a sense of belonging among students. However, due to their reactive nature, students often find themselves overwhelmed and burned out, leading to the opposite intended result.

Furthermore, current research supports our cause. According to studies, excessive meetings and advisories can lead to cognitive overload, reducing learning and productivity (Psychology Today, 2019). This essentially counteracts the primary goal of education - enriching the student's mind and providing quality learning experiences.

By eliminating RAMs in Illinois schools, we can safeguard our mental health and restore the focus on effective learning strategies. Please, sign this petition and stand with us for a change that prioritizes student's well-being and success in education.
