In Wisconsin, where I live, despite being a 100% disabled veteran, I still have to pay property taxes on my primary residence. After paying these taxes, I am required to file tax returns for possible refunds. Owning a home should be a reward for our sacrifice and service, not a punishing financial burden. This tax policy causes unnecessary hardships for us, the bravest men and women who risked it all to serve their country.

Disabled veterans make up roughly 20% of the overall veteran population, or about 1.4 million people in the United States according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This suggests that a substantial number of veterans in Wisconsin could also be burdened by this taxing system.

Now, we are petitioning for a change in the Wisconsinite legislation. We are asking for the complete elimination of property taxes for 100% disabled veterans on their primary residences. This would greatly lighten our financial loads, ensuring that we can afford to live in homes we worked hard to secure. Veterans fought for their country with courage and dedication. The least they deserve is to live comfortably in their homes without the worry of crippling property taxes.
