I am a student at Percy Julian Middle School in Oak Park, IL, USA. Like many of my peers, I dread the arrival of J Days. These days cram 10 periods into one day, leaving us with only around 30-45 minutes per class. This is simply not enough time to absorb the material or complete any meaningful work.

Our school community largely agrees that J Days are a waste of time and do not contribute positively to our learning environment. Yet, we have been unable to make any changes so far. We propose replacing these unproductive days with an A or B day schedule which each have five periods and over an hour for class time.

Research shows that longer class periods can improve student outcomes by allowing more in-depth exploration of topics and reducing transition times between classes (National Education Association). By switching from J Days to A or B days, we could significantly increase productivity and enhance our educational experience.

We urge the administration at Percy Julian Middle School to consider this change seriously for the benefit of all students' academic success. Please sign this petition if you support eliminating J Days in favor of more productive learning schedules.
