Eliminate Interest on Medical Debt in Montana

The Issue

I recently received a barrage of medical bills from different providers who are "in partnership" with a company named 'Professional Solutions.' Far from being solutions, this company has been bombarding me with relentless harassment through phone calls, emails, and even reaching out to me through my business contacts. This intimidation strategy made it impossible to communicate directly with the medical practitioners to dispute charges or obtain itemized statements. To make matters worse, these bills arrived late, already marked as delinquent, and now I'm expected to pay interest on top of them. They've even threatened to seize my assets if I don't comply.

Montana, as a state, deserves better healthcare standards and ethical billing practices. Aggressive and predatory billing tactics, such as charging high-interest rates on medical debts, only exacerbate the stress and anxiety for patients. Medical care should prioritize healing, not increase financial burden.

Numerous Montanans face these same issues. A Kaiser Family Foundation study shows that 26% of adults reported having past-due medical bills, a percentage that’s particularly alarming considering the healthcare services are often subpar in our region. Patients often find themselves unable to access necessary itemized bills and face unnecessary complexities when questioning these charges.

Solutions must be implemented now! We urge lawmakers in Montana to intervene and eliminate interest charges on medical debt. These debts should not be reported to credit agencies until all disputes are resolved. Additionally, regulations must ensure transparent billing and easy access to itemized medical statements.

By signing this petition, we collectively voice our demand for fair medical billing practices and a stop to interest on medical debts in Montana. Let’s ensure that healthcare in Montana becomes a partnership between patient and provider, without the looming threat of financial ruin hanging overhead. Please sign this petition to urge our legislators to act now.
