Eliminate Harmful Chemical Food Dyes from South Carolina's Public Schools
The Issue
MAKE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOLS HEALTHY AGAIN! Chemical food dyes, frequently found in various processed snacks, candies, and drinks, pose a significant risk to our children's health. These dyes are linked to hyperactivity, attention issues, and behavioral problems - factors that greatly impact a child's ability to function and learn effectively.
Compelling research reveals that artificial dyes such as Red Dye No. 3, Red Dye No. 40, Yellow Dye No. 5, Yellow Dye No. 6, Blue Dye No. 1, Blue Dye No. 2 and Green Dye No. 3 can disrupt brain function, causing difficulties in focusing, increased impulsivity, and mood alterations (source: Environmental Health Perspectives Journal).
We, therefore, call on our South Carolina legislators to prioritize our children’s future over industry convenience. We urge that they pass legislation banning the use of these harmful chemical dyes in our public schools breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Similar legislation has been passed on California and is proposed in over a dozen other states.
This disturbing reality is deeply personal to us who understand the harm caused by these additives. Our public schools in South Carolina are serving lunches and snacks laced with these harmful dyes to an unsuspecting, vulnerable population, neglecting the considerable impact they have on our children’s health and academic performance.
Please sign this petition. Let us remove these dangerous chemicals from our school foods for the betterment of our children's health, potential, and future.
