It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. I think everyone has a right to love and be loved. That is why I started this a petition last year.
Research by Mencap shows I’m not alone, with around 75% of people publicly surveyed saying they found the content unacceptable and thought the question should be removed.
Almost a year later, the question is still on the website and I never received a reply to my personal email to the CEO. Until now.
Today, I got a Valentine’s gift that beats flowers and chocolates. After sharing a video with OK Cupid of people with a learning disability reacting to the question the new CEO, Elie Seidman, agreed to remove the question!
This is a win for love and inclusion and none of it would have been possible without your support- thank you!
However, whilst there is cause for celebration, the fact that it took a year to get this result shows how far we still have to go in changing attitudes towards people with a learning disability.
Help us continue to spread the message that love is for everyone by sharing the good news and the video that helped make it happen; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5XLTZcqlS0&feature=youtu.be
Thank you for all your support,
Ciara
