Red Tape
First of all I big thank you to all the supporters of this petition. We are more than 16000 . It is so refreshing to see how many of us thing that this is a no brainier request and we all have pretty much the same point of view to the whole matter
I have talked to my local MP office and they have explained to me the details (red tape) to file a petition.
First
We need to address the petition to the provincial office :
Eleanor McMahon
Member of Provincial Parliament
Eleanor McMahon is a politician in Ontario, Canada. She is a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario who was elected in 2014.
I was originally going to address this petition to Marc Garneau MP, but I have been advised that the right way is to start with the provincial office
The MP office explained to me the details to file a petition. It seems that we have to complete three tasks
1: Prepare the petition: http://ontla.on.ca/lao/en/getting-involved/petitions/
A petition is a request that the Legislative Assembly of Ontario take some specific action (or refrain from taking some action) to redress a public grievance.
2: Present the petition: http://ontla.on.ca/lao/en/getting-involved/petitions/presentation-of-a-petition.html
It is the responsibility of the petitioner(s) to arrange for a Member of the Legislative Assembly to present a petition.
Any Member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, other than a Cabinet Minister or the Speaker of the House may present a petition.
3: Once steps one and two are done, then we will wait for something called The Government's Response to a Petition: http://ontla.on.ca/lao/en/getting-involved/petitions/the-governments-response-to-a-petition.html
Within 24 sitting days of the day on which the presentation of the petition is recorded, the government is required to file a response. The response is delivered to the Clerk of the House and to the MPP who presented the petition.
I will start working on step 1
PS.
Please keep sharing the link to the petition. The more we are the better chance we will have to make this change happen
Thank you
