The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of El Paso, urge the El Paso City Council to direct the City Manager and City Attorney to prevent the installation or expansion of any Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities within El Paso city limits.
On February 3, 2026, El Paso City Council will consider action to formally oppose further ICE detention infrastructure in our city. This petition is submitted to demonstrate clear community opposition to any expansion of ICE detention centers in El Paso.
Further creation was implied when early federal contracts were made with tribal owned businesses near Soccoro and were alleged to be a part of the Department of Homeland security implementation of said detention centers.
The piece of legislation being spoken upon was proposed by Lily Limon and Chris Canales, however not only do city officials disagree with further expansion, we the people do. Our citizens have been clear on their opinion with approximately 6 High Schools of our city participating in student lead walkouts against ICE and with more set to happen in the near future including city wide organizations.
By signing this petition you will be a part of something greater than yourself, supporting the community that was built off of immigrants backs and preventing further inhumane practices and suffering for migrants and their families.
This petition will be presented alongside a speech at El Paso city council meeting 2/3/2026 by the student lead movement, troopers for justice.
