Let single & divorced teachers pass on their pensions after death

Let single & divorced teachers pass on their pensions after death
My brother, Nick Stone, died of covid aged 55 on 2.1.22. He was a much loved languages teacher at City of Norwich school for over 30 years… Their longest serving staff member. We are pretty sure he caught covid at school doing the job he loved. He made a difference to the lives of 1000s of children over the years.
Nick was single & never married. He had always told my mum she was nominated for his pension & death in service grant. However we have just found out my mum can’t be a beneficiary as you can only nominate if you are married or in a civil partnership.
The law has to change on this as it is discriminating against single or divorced teachers. If a person pays their hard earned money into a pension they have every right to say who gets it after their death. Many teachers choose not to marry, many teachers are divorced... Why should these people be treated differently?
Please sign my petition to get the rules/law on this changed so all teachers are treated equally, regardless of their circumstances. I owe it to Nick to fight for this.
Thank you.
