Edison Demands Action On Rising Crime

The Issue

We the undersigned residents demand that Edison Township take immediate action to combat the crime epidemic impacting our town.

According to data from the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit, Edison experienced an 82.76% surge in robberies, a 56.25% increase in assaults, a 52.72% rise in burglaries, and a 70.52% jump in total offenses between 2021 and 2023.

Here a just a couple examples:

Three suspects barged into an Edison home, likely looking for keys to high-end cars, according to police. "It's very difficult for me to watch and to relive. My stomach turns every time. They came in with no fear," said a woman who lives in the home.

There was a violent car jacking on Oak Tree Road at Patel Brother's Parking Lot.

Several home burglaries occurred in Edison during the overnight and early morning hours in December 2024 and January 2025.

Instead of addressing the public safety crisis, Edison Mayor Sam Joshi began employing inflatable dummies in stationary police vehicles.

Many of the police cars with these inflatable cops have not been moved in months. The North Edison substation is not manned.  There are only 8  officers covering the entire town during the 1 AM shift when home invasions are most likely to occur.

There is a gross misallocation of resources when it comes to public safety. For example, while we the residents of Edison have been left with inflatable cops to protect us, the Mayor Joshi took 4 police officers on a trip to Chicago to attend the Democrat National Convention.

Its time that Edison got serious about tackling crime. We demand immediate action. More police officers on the street, and less in desk jobs
