Economic Equity for Childfree & Mandate Comprehensive Black Maternal Health Reform
The Issue
Our societal structures and public policies continue to favor traditional family models, often penalizing individuals, particularly women, who choose to remain childfree, single, or independent. From tax codes to societal pressure, women are frequently pushed toward traditional caretaking roles, domestic expectations, and forced family structures simply to access financial stability, tax relief, and full social benefits. A woman's worth, autonomy, and financial security should never be tied to her marital or parental status.
At the same time, for women who do choose path to motherhood, particularly Black women, the systemic failures of our healthcare system present a deadly crisis. Black women in the United States face disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity, severe disparities in reproductive healthcare, and heightened vulnerability to domestic stress and violence due to a lack of institutional support.
Whether a woman chooses to remain childfree or chooses to have a family, the current system is failing her. Society must respect full bodily autonomy, relieve the financial burden placed on independent individuals, and guarantee safe, equitable healthcare for all.
Our Demands We are calling on lawmakers, policy experts, and healthcare institutions to enact immediate reform:
‼️Tax Equity for Childfree & Single Individuals: Reform current tax codes and public benefits to ensure single, childfree individuals receive equitable tax relief and living credits, eliminating systemic financial penalties for choosing an independent life path.
‼️Full Bodily and Social Autonomy: Protect and support women's right to choose their own future, free from legal, cultural, or institutional pressures to marry, raise children, or assume unpaid domestic labor.
‼️Pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act: Enact comprehensive federal legislation to fund community-based maternal health organizations, diversify the perinatal workforce, and address social determinants of health that endanger Black mothers.
‼️Healthcare Accountability & Implicit Bias Training: Mandate standardized, ongoing bias training and medical accountability protocols across all healthcare systems to ensure Black women are heard, respected, and safely cared for.
‼️Institutional Support & Safety Net Protections: Strengthen legal protections, mental health resources, and crisis support systems targeting domestic violence and systemic stress affecting women.
Why This Matters No woman should be financially penalized for living independently, nor should any woman fear for her life or well-being during pregnancy. It is time to dismantle archaic expectations, guarantee economic equity regardless of family status, and hold our healthcare and policy systems fully accountable.
