WE SOON MAY HAVE OUR FIRST REAL PAUSE ON LARGE SCALE INDUSTRIAL SOLAR PROJECTS IN EAST WINDSOR I want to share a long-overdue update — because a lot has been happening behind the scenes, and it’s finally starting to show. A new state “solar bill” has PASSED THE HOUSE, and it includes something we have been fighting for: 👉 A one-year MORATORIUM aka pause on new utility-scale solar siting in non-commercial/industrial zones in East Windsor This is real progress. After years of: • Testimony • Organizing • Meeting with state leaders • Pushing back on overconcentration We now have the first meaningful pause. --- 🟡 What else is in the bill? This is not just about a pause — it also includes: ✔️ A study on balancing farmland preservation vs. renewable energy siting ✔️ Movement toward clear Siting Council guidance to prevent overconcentration ✔️ New solar safety provisions, including: • Defining major vs. minor incidents • Required response timelines • Standards for when a solar facility can be safely re-energized after an incident This is especially important given the incidents we’ve experienced here in East Windsor. --- ⚖️ Important context This bill also acknowledges something we’ve always said: ➡️ This is not about being anti-solar ➡️ It’s about responsible siting and fair distribution Even in this bill, leaders emphasized: • Solar remains an important part of our energy mix • There are good, high-paying jobs tied to this industry • Residential and commercial solar will continue moving forward --- ⚠️ BUT — WE ARE NOT DONE The bill now moves to the Senate, and timing is critical: 🕒 If it does NOT pass by next Wednesday at midnight, it dies. So while this is a huge win, it is also a critical moment. --- 💬 What this means for us This gives our community: • Time to push for permanent protections • Time to demand real siting standards • Time to stop the pattern of overconcentration It also proves something important: 👉 Your voices are being heard. --- 🙏 Thank you This did not happen alone. Thank you to: • State and local leaders working on this issue • Town leadership navigating a very complex situation • And every single one of you who signed, shared, showed up, and spoke out --- 📢 What’s next We now focus on the Senate. I will continue to keep you updated — and there may be a moment very soon where your voices are needed again. --- This is a big step forward. Not the finish line — but real progress. -Signed a concerned but extremely grateful East Windsor citizen
