🚨 DECISION DAY – Gravel Pit Solar Expansion Today is Decision Day for the proposed Gravel Pit Solar expansion in East Windsor. If you want to hear the decision directly from the Connecticut Siting Council, you can watch the meeting live on Zoom at 1:00 PM. ⚠️ The public cannot speak during this meeting, but you can listen as the Council announces its decision. Join the Zoom Meeting https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86825958246?pwd=0MYtdOG9WRN6dEKTSYq75eHhv7ohZO.1 Meeting ID: 868 2595 8246 Passcode: uH2Hne Dial-in option: +1 929 205 6099 (New York) ⸻ Where Things Stand Despite the enormous impact this project would have on our community: • The Office of Governor Ned Lamont has not responded to our request for a moratorium on additional large-scale solar development in East Windsor. • Department of Agriculture Commissioner Bryan Hurlburt has provided no input regarding the loss of hundreds of acres of prime Connecticut farmland. • Senator Saud Anwar and State Representative Jaime Foster have urged the Connecticut Siting Council to reject this expansion and halt further large-scale projects in East Windsor. • Every member of the East Windsor Board of Selectmen has opposed additional solar expansion in town. • Bill Syme, the Siting Council’s non-voting agricultural representative, has publicly opposed this project, yet the Council removed the only agricultural vote from the process without notification during the hearing proceedings. • Erin Stewart, candidate for Governor of Connecticut, has stood with East Windsor residents and called for a moratorium on solar development in East Windsor until the Siting Council process is reformed. ⸻ Our Community Has Spoken Thanks to all of you, 2,209 people have signed this petition demanding that our voices be heard. Residents across East Windsor and surrounding towns have united to say: Enough is enough. Prime farmland is irreplaceable. Industrial solar projects should not be forced onto communities that overwhelmingly oppose them. Groups like East Windsor Citizens for Responsible Solar Development have spent years of unpaid time and effort fighting for responsible solar siting and protecting our community. Yet despite overwhelming opposition, local voices continue to be ignored by a process that removes decision-making from the towns most affected. ⸻ Thank You To the journalists who helped bring attention to this issue — Cassidy Williams, Jayne Chacko, Len Besthoff, and John Moritz — thank you for helping expose the loss of local control. And to the 2,209 residents standing together, thank you for supporting this effort to protect our town and our farmland. Today we will finally hear the Council’s decision. Please join the Zoom meeting at 1:00 PM to listen live. -A concerned and very grateful East Windsor Citizen
