Dear Friend of Huntly Park,
You saved Huntly Park. You did it with many others. This was a community effort and an incredibly successful one at that. The speed of our victory shows what can be done with carefully targeted messaging.
Uncertainty had been hanging over the park for decades. I had grown up with it, but when I returned from the Armed Forces and heard the same old debates and no end in sight, I started the petition. 4 months later and East Renfrewshire Council members voted to do what we asked for. Clearly if the community didn't support it, I wasn't going to achieve much alone. But you did support it and I am grateful. I think that is how business should be done - positively, intelligently and collaboratively.
I haven't even submitted the petition yet. There is no need. It has had thousands of views and is an ongoing campaign, for it also calls for improvements to the park to include the creation of a community led café. For that reason, please keep sharing.
I suppose we now have time on our side. We have dealt with the threat. Now we must work on the opportunity.
