Dear Friend of Giffnock,
It looks like we may have almost done it!
1300 of us signed. Some protested that there was no threat. Others picked up on our campaign and featured the issue in Scottish election literature. That's what I had counted on. Now, today, I have been informed that East Renfrewshire Council have resolved to secure the Fields in Trust status we called for.
This is real democracy and community empowerment in action. But it's too early to celebrate. We now must wait for the protection to be obtained. Even that is just the start. We also call for improvements to Huntly Park to include the transformation of the pavilion into a community led café. There is much still to be done.
After years of bickering and uncertainty, we as a community finally gripped the issue, applied the pressure and focused minds. The timing was perfect. Now we have the momentum, it's time to ensure that the improvements are made too.
I am very proud to be part of a community that speaks up and gets things done. Thank you.
