Easily Accessible Feminine Products

Easily Accessible Feminine Products
The Issue
Many people who menstruate do not have easy access to feminine products. Often the products that are accessible to them are poor quality, or not effective. According to an article on Blume, "Offering free and accessible period products can help people who menstruate save upwards of $5,000 in their lifetimes, reduces stress on women’s shelters, and reduces waste," (Blume). In providing easily accessible products, we can also offer those unable to spend an average of $12 every few months, get the resources they need. If we do not start taking steps to actions now, it will be years before we see any change.
People can start their period at eight years old. When I first got my period at age 11, I was living with my dad half of the time. I was too embarrassed to tell him, so up until I could buy feminine products myself, I had to use whatever I could find. Once my parents did find out, I would often get in trouble for ruining my clothes they bought me if I would bleed through. This was a lot to go through at such a young age, and I felt like I had no solutions. Having these products in more public places at that time would have really saved me, and I know that there are so many other people that went through similar situations, and I hope that the next generation will not have to go through what me, and so many other people went through.
