Petition updateDr. Jeffrey Moss should resign as the Superintendent of Beaufort County SchoolsCARE OPPOSES "MOSS SCHOOL BUILDING TAX"
Joseph IacoBluffton, SC, United States
May 3, 2016
CARE is urging taxpayers and voters in Beaufort County to reject the "Moss School Building Sales Tax" which will be on the November 8th ballot. After considerable analysis and discussion with experts, CARE has announced its opposition for three key reasons: NO PRESSING NEED----The school district has not provided sufficient evidence to support any immediate need for nearly $300 million for capital projects. COST IS EXTRAVAGANT----This plan is likely to cost taxpayers who live here double what they would pay in a traditional bond referendum. LACK OF TRUST IN THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THE SCHOOL BOARD----Trust in Superintendent Moss and the majority on the school board has been shattered, and the nepotism scandal of last fall continues to haunt the school district. The South Carolina Ethics Commission has summoned Superintendent Moss to appear at a hearing after finding probable cause that he violated state law. The school board has demonstrated its rejection of public input and has made significant decisions in defiance of feedback from its constituents.
