Carers across the UK are still being prosecuted by the Department for Work and Pensions for overpayments of carers allowance.

I need your help.

Unpaid carers across the UK are being prosecuted by the Department for Work and Pensions for overpayments caused by an oversight. An oversight that the DWP could have stopped a long time ago.

Carers get paid £81.90pw by the UK government to be a carer for 35 hours a week (minimum). This is the lowest benefit the government pays to anyone on welfare payments.

Over 140,000 people are being convicted of fraud, while struggling to balance work with providing care for loved ones, and in this cost of living crisis, carers are having to decided between heating and eating.

The more signatures we have on this petition, the easier it will be to finally get something done. Carers provide over £162bn back to the UK economy, and only the Liberal Democrats pledged to look at the benefit criteria and rules again, to aid carers.
