Allow driving lessons during lockdown
The Issue
I would like to draw your kind attention Driving Instructions business that is a key contributor to our economy, feeds more than 40,000 households; and, helps individuals gain a key life skill.
Due to COVID 19 crisis, everyone is in lockdown and all the driving lessons have been stopped. This has meant that many learner drivers, including critical workers, who were very close to acquiring driving licenses to facilitate their jobs are unable to get driving licenses. Although DVSA is providing priority driving test dates to critical workers, Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) are unable to provide lessons to other drivers.
In order to enable the key workers and other learner drivers to receive driving lessons, I would like to request that the government considers allowing ADIs to conduct lessons during the lockdown as long as both the ADI and the driver can wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves and visors.
This should help prospective drivers acquire licenses quickly and help ADIs get back into the business too. This proposal will not only mobilise a business stream that employs nearly 40,000 people, relies completely upon person-to-person interaction, and has come to a complete halt due to COVID-19 crisis; but also will help critical workers and other learner drivers acquire an important life skill and apply it at the time when they need it the most.
The basis of this petition is various calls held between www.MockDrivingTest.com team and hundreds of ADIs across the UK. Many of them are struggling to fetch for their families which is causing them anxiety & depression due to lockdown.
