I have a 5 year old nonverbal autistic son. He was abused at school. The teacher ripped his hair out. I then audio recorded 6 hours of horror for him and his classmates from the teachers and paraprofessionals. Finding out that recording them was illegal and not knowing what to do. I turned to social media for advice. What I got what alot of horror stories from other parents. It wasn't just my son's school I read letters from parents of every public school in town. Some of these monsters we have trusted are kids with have been reported several times and continue to be allowed to "teach" our children who can't speak up for themselves. In my son's case the police officer that came out told me that this is not his first report on this teacher. There are cameras in daycares stores they are on virtually every corner. So why not in our classrooms? Why as a parent of a non verbal child should we have to choose between home school or private school just to keep our children safe. And what about the children of the parents that have to work and can not home school or afford private school. Do their children deserve to go to school with targets on their backs? We have to speak up. We need to demand the school system keep up with technology and install cameras in the classrooms. These cameras would not only help protect our children but also the teachers when a accident does happen and the child is unable to tell what happened. Help keep our children safe. Lets be their voice.
