Subject: Request to conduct Mysuru Dasara 2026 in a simple, traditional and drought-sensitive manner in view of prevailing agricultural and water distress

Respected Sir,

Sub: Let Mysuru Dasara 2026 reflect our responsibility towards farmers, water conservation and the present situation in the Mysuru region

Mysuru Dasara is one of Karnataka’s most treasured cultural traditions. It represents the history, heritage, faith and cultural identity of Mysuru and has a special place in the hearts of people across Karnataka.

However, this year, the Mysuru region is facing a difficult situation with rainfall deficiency, declining groundwater levels, agricultural losses and distress among farmers. Reports have indicated that eight of the nine taluks in Mysuru district have been declared drought-affected, with substantial crop damage. Rainfall during the crucial agricultural period has also been significantly below normal.

At such a time, I respectfully request the Government of Karnataka to consider conducting Mysuru Dasara 2026 in a simple, traditional and environmentally responsible manner, while retaining the essential heritage and religious traditions of the festival.

Our humble requests
1. Give priority to traditional Dasara practices

The core traditions of Dasara—religious ceremonies, cultural heritage, the Jamboo Savari and other established traditional programmes—may be given priority.

2. Reduce non-essential entertainment activities

Large-scale entertainment programmes, temporary installations and activities that require substantial quantities of water, electricity and other public resources could be reduced or restricted this year.

3. Moderate illumination and power consumption

The extensive illumination associated with Dasara could be kept within reasonable limits. Energy-efficient lighting and reduced operating hours could be adopted wherever possible.

4. Avoid unnecessary use of water

Any Dasara-related activity involving significant water consumption may be reviewed carefully. In a region where farmers and rural communities are facing water stress, every possible effort to conserve water would send a powerful message of social responsibility.

5. Demonstrate solidarity with farmers

Dasara 2026 could consciously recognise the difficulties faced by farmers. Rural communities and farmers could be given a meaningful presence in the celebrations, highlighting their contribution to Karnataka's food security and economy.

6. Redirect avoidable expenditure towards drought relief

Wherever expenditure can be legitimately reduced without affecting essential Dasara traditions, the Government may consider directing the resulting savings towards drought-relief measures, drinking-water support, agricultural assistance or other appropriate farmer-support programmes.

Dasara can be grand without being extravagant
This request is not to cancel Dasara. On the contrary, it is a request to make Dasara 2026 more meaningful.

The grandeur of Mysuru Dasara does not necessarily have to come from the scale of entertainment, illumination or expenditure. It can come from our tradition, heritage, culture, devotion and the participation of the people.

At a time when a farmer is worried about his crop, groundwater and livelihood, a restrained celebration would demonstrate that the people and Government of Karnataka stand together with the farming community.

A “Traditional Dasara – Simple Dasara – Farmers First” approach could make Mysuru Dasara 2026 a unique example of how a great cultural festival can coexist with environmental responsibility and social sensitivity.

It would also communicate an important message to future generations:

When our farmers are facing distress and our water resources are under pressure, Mysuru celebrates its traditions with responsibility and compassion.
I therefore humbly request your good office to consider directing the concerned authorities to review the scale of non-essential entertainment, illumination, water consumption and expenditure associated with Dasara 2026 and give priority to traditional practices, heritage, conservation and solidarity with farmers.

Such a decision would not diminish the significance of Mysuru Dasara. It would add a deeper meaning to it.

Let Dasara 2026 celebrate our traditions, respect our water and stand with our farmers.

ಮಾನ್ಯರೇ,

ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರಾ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರೆಯು ನಮ್ಮ ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಪರಂಪರೆ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ನಂಬಿಕೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಜನರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಸ್ಥಾನವಿದೆ.

ಆದರೆ, ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಮೈಸೂರು ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಳೆ, ಅಂತರ್ಜಲ ಮಟ್ಟ ಕುಸಿತ, ಬೆಳೆ ನಷ್ಟ ಹಾಗೂ ರೈತರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮೈಸೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಒಂಬತ್ತು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕುಗಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಎಂಟು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕುಗಳನ್ನು ಬರಪೀಡಿತ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಲಾಗಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ವರದಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ನಿರ್ಣಾಯಕವಾಗಿರುವ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಳೆಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವೂ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಗಣನೀಯವಾಗಿ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಇಂತಹ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ದಸರೆಯ ಮೂಲ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಧಕ್ಕೆಯಾಗದಂತೆ, ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರಾ 2026ನ್ನು ಸರಳ, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಸರ ಸ್ನೇಹಿ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚರಿಸುವಂತೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ವಿನಮ್ರವಾಗಿ ಮನವಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ನಮ್ಮ ವಿನಮ್ರ ಮನವಿಗಳು

1. ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ದಸರಾ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಆದ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡುವುದು

ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ವಿಧಿವಿಧಾನಗಳು, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ಜಂಬೂ ಸವಾರಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರೆಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಆದ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು.

2. ಅನಗತ್ಯ ಮನರಂಜನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು

ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು, ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವ ಬೃಹತ್ ಮನರಂಜನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಅಲಂಕಾರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅಗತ್ಯವಲ್ಲದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಬಹುದು.

3. ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಬಳಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ದೀಪಾಲಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಮಿತಿಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು

ದಸರೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ವ್ಯಾಪಕ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ದೀಪಾಲಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಮಿತಿಗೊಳಿಸಬಹುದು. ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಧನ ಉಳಿತಾಯದ ಬೆಳಕು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಅವಧಿಯ ದೀಪಾಲಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಬಹುದು.

4. ಅನಗತ್ಯ ನೀರಿನ ಬಳಕೆಯನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವುದು

ದಸರಾ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಯಾವುದೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ನೀರು ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ಮರುಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ರೈತರು ಮತ್ತು ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಜನರು ನೀರಿನ ಕೊರತೆಯನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಹನಿ ನೀರನ್ನೂ ಉಳಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಹೊಣೆಗಾರಿಕೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ.

5. ರೈತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮಾಜದ ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸುವುದು

ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರಾ 2026ರಲ್ಲಿ ರೈತರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟವನ್ನು ಗಮನದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು, ರೈತರು ಹಾಗೂ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡಬಹುದು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಆಹಾರ ಭದ್ರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆಗೆ ರೈತರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ದಸರೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಗೌರವಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶವೂ ಇದಾಗಬಹುದು.

6. ತಪ್ಪಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ವೆಚ್ಚವನ್ನು ಬರ ಪರಿಹಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸುವ ಕುರಿತು ಪರಿಗಣನೆ

ಅಗತ್ಯ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ದಸರಾ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಧಕ್ಕೆಯಾಗದಂತೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಬಹುದಾದ ವೆಚ್ಚವಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಂತಹ ಉಳಿತಾಯವನ್ನು ಕಾನೂನುಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆಡಳಿತಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರ ಪರಿಹಾರ, ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರಿನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ, ಕೃಷಿ ನೆರವು ಹಾಗೂ ರೈತರಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವ ಇತರ ಸಹಾಯ ಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಳಸುವ ಕುರಿತು ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಬಹುದು.

ದಸರೆಯ ವೈಭವ ಅತಿರೇಕದಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ — ನಮ್ಮ ಪರಂಪರೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ

ಈ ಮನವಿ ದಸರೆಯನ್ನು ರದ್ದುಪಡಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಬದಲಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಸರೆಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರೆಯ ವೈಭವವು ಕೇವಲ ಮನರಂಜನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ, ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ದೀಪಾಲಂಕಾರ ಅಥವಾ ಖರ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ನಮ್ಮ ಪರಂಪರೆ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಭಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಜನರ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆಯೇ ದಸರೆಯ ನಿಜವಾದ ವೈಭವವಾಗಿದೆ.

ತನ್ನ ಬೆಳೆ, ನೀರು ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ರೈತ ಚಿಂತಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸರಳ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಯಮಿತ ದಸರಾ ಆಚರಣೆಯು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಜನತೆ ರೈತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ.

“ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ದಸರಾ – ಸರಳ ದಸರಾ – ರೈತರಿಗೆ ಆದ್ಯತೆ” ಎಂಬ ಆಶಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರಾ 2026ನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುವುದು, ಒಂದು ಮಹಾನ್ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಉತ್ಸವವು ಪರಿಸರ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಹೊಣೆಗಾರಿಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಗಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಬಹುದು.

ಇದು ಮುಂದಿನ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಕೂಡ ಒಂದು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ:

“ನಮ್ಮ ರೈತರು ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಜಲ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳು ಒತ್ತಡದಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗ, ಮೈಸೂರು ತನ್ನ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕರುಣೆಯಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.”

ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ದಸರಾ 2026ರ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಗತ್ಯವಲ್ಲದ ಮನರಂಜನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ದೀಪಾಲಂಕಾರ, ನೀರಿನ ಬಳಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವೆಚ್ಚದ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವನ್ನು ಮರುಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು, ಪರಂಪರೆ, ಜಲ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ರೈತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಆದ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ ನೀಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ವಿನಮ್ರವಾಗಿ ಮನವಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಇಂತಹ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವು ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಬದಲಾಗಿ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಆಳವಾದ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ದಸರಾ 2026 ನಮ್ಮ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಿ, ನೀರನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸಲಿ, ರೈತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಲಿ.**
