The Issue

On March 30, 2026, the Trump administration sued Minnesota's Department of Education and State High School League — targeting the state's policies that allow transgender students to play sports and use facilities that match their gender identity. The federal government is calling these protections a violation of Title IX, the very law designed to give every student an equal shot at education.

Let's be honest about who this lawsuit is really about: kids. Trans kids in Minnesota schools who are just trying to play sports, belong to a team, make friends, and get through the school day like everyone else.

Minnesota has fought back. Attorney General Keith Ellison called it "astonishing that any president would try to target, shame, and harass children just trying to be themselves." The state filed its own preemptive lawsuit last year. Minnesota's leaders have been consistent: these students deserve to be protected, not made into political symbols.

But the Trump administration is pressing forward anyway — seeking a permanent court order banning trans athletes from girls' sports, erasing past athletic records, and extracting financial penalties from a state that chose inclusion. Similar lawsuits have already been filed against Maine and California. This is a coordinated campaign, and trans children are the target.

This isn't about fairness in sports. If it were, the federal government would be addressing the many documented inequities in girls' athletics that have gone unaddressed for decades. This is about using trans children — one of the most vulnerable groups in the country — as props in a political fight they never asked to be part of.

We're calling on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to drop this lawsuit immediately. Minnesota's trans kids are not a problem to be solved. They are students who deserve the same dignity, safety, and opportunity as every other child in this country.

Sign now. Tell the DOJ to stop targeting trans kids and drop this case.
